Bayern Munich reigns supreme in Germany

Bayern players celebrate another Bundesliga title

Fc Bayern Munich once again showed why they are considered the Kings of the Bundesliga after winning a record 11th title. For the first time in several years, the title had to be decided on the final day of the competition. Despite Borussia Dortmund’s spirited fight, they let the title slip to Bayern on the last day. During a scrappy season, Thomas Tuchel was rewarded with a Bundesliga medal courtesy of a late Musiala goal. The last-minute dramatic goal ensured that the Bundesliga remained at the Allianz Arena for another season.

The absence of Neuer felt

The absence of shot-stopper Manuel Neuer was felt as the Bavarians conceded in several matches. Yann Sommer tried his best but has failed to be imperious in goal compared to Neur. Bayern Munich had to finish the season with only a few clean sheets. Neuer only played 12 matches for Bayern before his unfortunate injury during a skiing activity back in December.

The record maker Thomas Muller

Thomas Muller made an impressive record by becoming the most decorated Bundesliga player. With 12 trophies to his name, no other Bundesliga player has won more league trophies than Muller. He is set to always be in the Bundesliga Hall of Fame due to his role in winning Bayern Munich the trophy.

The Double special celebration

The celebrations were hosted hours later when the team visited their female counterparts, FC Bayern Munich women. They were playing Postdam women in their title decider. All the men’s team members were present for this special occasion.

The ladies did not disappoint and fired 11 goals past hapless Postdam women. The men’s team were pictured impressively enjoying the game as their women’s team humiliated Postdam. The crucial win was enough to gift them the women’s Bundesliga title, replicating the men’s achievement.

Thiago had earlier stalled talks with Bayern Munich over extending his contract but later revealed his plans of wanting to play in a different environment next season.

Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed this by saying that the Spaniard is free to leave, informing interested clubs that they will have to pay a ‘fair price’.

“On Thiago, you know he’s told us he wants a new challenge. If any club wants to talk and is willing to pay a fair price, we’ll work on that.”

The Spaniard played an important role in Bayern Munich’s achievements since 2013 when he moved in. He is considered one of the best creative midfielders in the world.

His involvement in Munich’s win against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final where they thrashed the Catalonians 8-2 confirmed how important he is in the midfield. He will surely bolster Jurgen Klopp’s options in the midfield.

In his seven seasons at Bayern since 2013, he has netted 31 goals in all competitions and won four German cups.

Bayern manager, Hansi Flick, admitted in an interview why he thinks Thiago wants a new challenge.

“As a person and as an athlete, I can understand him,” said Flick. “Thiago played for Barcelona, and seven years for Bayern.

“Now he wants a new challenge, which in my opinion must be the Premier League.”

Barcelona 2-8 Bayern Munich: Bayern thrash Barca to reach Champions League semi-finals

Bayern thrash Barca to reach Champions League semi-finals

Bayern Munich thrashed Barcelona 8-2 last evening in Lisbon to proceed to the Champions League semi-finals.

Both teams scored in the first seven minutes, but Bayern later took control of the game beating Barca 4-1 in the first half and scoring four more goals in the second half.

Bayern’s Philipe Coutinho and Muller netted twice each as Gnabry, Perisic, Lewandowski and Kimmich also scored. Barca’s two goals came from David Alaba’s own goal in the first half and a goal from Luis Suarez.

Many predicted Bayern’s victory considering their recent form, but scoring eight goals against a big club like Barcelona was not anticipated. The German champions mercilessly attacked Barcelona from the start to the end of the match.

The game between Man City and Lyon will determine who will face Bayern in the semi-finals. The two clubs are now fully aware of what they will be up against if any of them qualifies to the semi-finals.

One could say Messi was disappointed by his team-mates in last evening’s match although he was not at his best.

Of recent, there have been rumours of the six-time Ballon d’Or winner leaving Barcelona, but the claims are unfounded. Messi hasn’t won a trophy for Barca this season, and a new challenge for him would probably be for the best.

Setien not the best man for the job

Barcelona’s defeat followed the sacking of Quique Setién after he failed to lead Barca into Champions League victory (according to Fabrizio Romano). Setien future at Barcelona was put to question when he did not win the Laliga title.

Setien’s poor management forced Barcelona to cut short his contract that was to run till June 2022. As a Barca coach since his appointment in January, Barcelona was knocked out of the Copa del Rey, lost Laliga title and now knocked out of the Champions League.

His appointment as the club’s manager back in January was a surprise to many as he had only managed Las Palmas and Real Betis in Spain’s first division.
